I wasn't quite sure where to place the Gibson ES-335 guitar on our site here. After all, the ES-335 can actually be used as a sort of acoustic guitar if the situation warrants. However, most owners or potential new owners see the guitar as an electric only, and so that's where we've placed it here on the site.

The Gibson ES-335 Electric guitar is one of the more unique guitars in Gibson's model line. Designed to be lower in tone than the typical solid bodied electric guitars, the ES-335 has hollow sides to complement the acoustic side of guitar design, but with solid wood in the middle of the guitar body, extended down from the neck in a straight line.

Electric guitars with hollow bodies tend to have an incredible amount of annoying feedback when only solid bodies are used, and most of the feedback is found to resonate from just behind the pickup area, so the solid maple section helps keep this in check.

However, the hollow sides provide a richer tone not only in an amplified setting, but also providing a way for the Gibson ES-335 guitar to be played without amplification, with the hollow sections providing the natural amplification needed.

Gibson ES-335 guitars are extremely popular with all types of musicians, including many of our favorite blues artists and ranging up into the hard rock types. It is difficult to pin down exactly the right guitarist for the ES-335, however custom designed editions have been introduced recently based upon popular rock stars like Dave Grohl. But because Gibson has been creating the guitars since 1958, we can certainly be sure that the guitar will continue to be used by many styles of guitarists.

The standard Gibson ES-335 guitar found for sale here and elsewhere typically has a maple body, a mahogany neck, and the standard rosewood fretboard. The original ES-335 semi-acoustic/electric archtop was fairly cheap, with prices starting out in the mid to high $200 range. Because the guitar is one of the higher demanded from customers, Gibson has recently introduced the same guitar in their Epiphone line. Epiphone are basically Gibson guitars with cheaper components, still giving a guitarist the chance to play this wonderful instrument without the high cost of entry.
