Goya Acoustic Guitars
Goya acoustic guitars have a special place in guitar history. Or at least the Goya acoustic guitars created prior to 1974 when Martin acquired the company. Before this, sometime in the '50's, Goya Guitars were actually designed by a well-known Swedish company that went by the name of Levin. Levin already had a name in Europe of creating classical guitars, but wanted to bring that same sound to the US market. So they collaborated with the Hershman in New York to come up with the Goya name.

There are some exceptions to the Swedish made Goya acoustic guitar statement. The reclusive G-50 was produced within the United States and not Sweden. There were also other non-acoustic Goya guitars produced in other countries during the 1960's. One popular model was a particularly fascinating jazz guitar produce in Italy.
In our opinion, collectors of Goya guitars should absolutely look for the the guitar from years prior to 1974. In 1974, the Martin company acquired the Goya name, but switched the building of the Goya guitar from Sweden to Asia (as in Taiwan and Japan). While the guitars were still extremely good quality, collectors are going to want the original Swedish made Goya guitars.

Martin continued to produce the acoustic Goya guitars until 1996, at which time the name was disbanded for other, more popular names under the Martin brand.
