There's probably only one really good reason to own a vintage Ovation guitar: vintage Ovation guitars were the first to introduce the unique round back styling that the guitar manufacturer has become famous for over the years!
Vintage Ovation guitars as well as every Ovation thereafter have backs created from a material that the Ovation engineers named Lyrachord. Lyrachord allowed the first engineers to completely redesign the body of the acoustic and acoustic-electric guitar to provide a more consistent sound and tone than traditional guitars with the wood and wood particular interiors of almost all other guitars.

The unique round back of vintage Ovation guitars also provided a more comfortable feel to the guitarist, allowing for a more comfortable approach to playing that just could not be found from other guitars.
The Lyrachord did not (and still does not) need bracing inside the body. The lack of bracing reduces the acoustical meddling of additional pieces within the body, allowing the sound to flow more smoothly.
Popular vintage guitars from Ovation are almost strictly the Balladeer model, at least when talking about an acoustic or acoustic-electric guitar model. For the rarest of models, you'll be looking for those pre-1970's editions of Ovation. However, most of the guitars available to collectors from our site will be at the earliest in the 1975 to 1978 year ranges.
Now all that I've reported above can be found in practically any Ovation guitar, and you don't necessarily need to hold out for a vintage Ovation guitar to have this great sound and feel. But the vintage models are closer to the beginning of the unique history of Ovation and their attempt at creating a unique and one-of-a-kind guitar when most other manufacturers were just following the crowd.
